Thunderstorm?...It had to be a Hurricane in Phoenix!

Thursday afternoon Jake's friend Ryan got into town from California. By about 5:00pm we laying out, swimming in the pool and enjoying the wonderful weather. We decided to all go shopping at Last Chance for a couple hours. We got out of the store at 9:30pm and noticed the sky was full of lightening. It looked pretty creepy but we didn't think twice about it. Jake and Ryan ran in to Baja Fresh to get some food to-go while Kennedy and I waited in the car. All of the sudden it just started pouring down and the wind was blowing so much that the car was rocking back and fourth. Pretty scary but with Jake was driving so we knew we could make it home. We headed down 7th St(a main road in Phoenix) and could barely see 10 feet in front of us. There was nickel size hail pounding our car. All of the power was out, even the stop lights. The roads started to flood and I really didn't think we were going to make it home. All down 7th street were these huge power poles laying across the road. As the lighting flashed we could see the car in front of us draped in power lines! There were sparks in the distance but we kept on driving. Heavenly Father was watching over us. Kennedy even fell asleep on the way home. She takes after her mom being able to fall asleep anywhere. Well we got home to the power being out for an hour or so. This morning my friend Natalie called me and we decided to go check out the neighborhood. This is what we found.
This is the tree in Natalie's front yard. You can't really tell from this picture but this is a really big tree!
This is her neighbors house directly across the street. The tree fell on her living room and water just poured in. This is a HUGE tree. FYI most of these homes are over 50 years old.
This home was CRUSHED by this tree! You can't even see the house anymore!
This is right next to Jake's office. Guess we can't go down that road. Did the wind really blow these over? I think something just came in a picked them up right out of the ground!
Snapped power lines??? Are we seriously in Phoenix? This doesn't happen in downtown Phoenix! The news is reporting 100mph winds and 10,000 lightning strikes and an inch and a half of rain in an hour.
It has seriously been a crazy night and morning. After I got home from my morning drive I found out that last night through all the chaos one of my good friends in our building got her car broken into and about $3000 worth of stuff stolen out! After reviewing the surveillance video they saw the guy first tried to break into our Mercedes! Good thing we didn't have anything valuable in it! I need a vacation!

It is totally nerve racking when the weather gets out of control, I'm glad to hear that you guys are okay! I hope they can catch the guy who broke into the car, it is very intrusive to have done to you, someone broke into both of our cars last year. Take care and stay safe!

OK, so when are you coming to Kauai?
Trade winds, waves, calm ukulele music...
Sounds like a hurricane, but WHERE is the water
by you guys? Hurricanes come OFF the water?
Tornadoes "touch" down and that looked like
a desert storm gone BAD!!!
Thank goodness your car kept working! and missed
getting hit by stuff!
COME vacation!
Aloha

Wow, Camille! That is amazing! I've only seen damage like that after tornadoes! That is quite incredible --can't believe that is downtown Phoenix -- the middle of the desert!
So glad the angels keep watch over you as we have asked them to do (and will continue to!)
Love ya

My power was out for 6 hours. Being brought up in the midwest I've been through 4 tornadoes!! That was like one without the funnel cloud!! The news said it was the most rain in 24 hours in Phoenix sense 1984!! WET!!!
